This extraordinary tequila represents another evolution in the tequila category and marks the world’s first clear Añejo, pioneered by Tequila Don Julio.

The luxury tequila of choice in Mexico, Tequila Don Julio uses only the highest-caliber, fully matured and ripened blue agave hand-selected from the rich, clay soils of the Los Altos region in Jalisco.

Tequila Don Julio 70 originated from Master Distiller Enrique de Colsa’s special reserve and is being launched in honor of the 70th anniversary of the year Don Julio González began perfecting the art of tequila making. To create this unique masterpiece tequila, Tequila Don Julio hand selects the finest blue agave plants at the peak of their maturity. The agave is then hand harvested and twice distilled at La Primavera, the distillery founded by Don Julio González. Tequila Don Julio 70 is aged to perfection in reclaimed American white oak barrels for 18 months, then carefully filtered for extra smoothness and its unique clarity.

Don Julio 70 Añejo Claro is the culmination of 70 years of knowledge, expertise and innovation that brings the smoothness of a Blanco and the complexity of an Añejo together for a totally unique tequila experience. Don Julio 70 Añejo Claro is aged eighteen months in American white-oak barrels and then carefully filtered to bring out its crisp agave flavor

IN HONOR OF Tequila Don Julio's 70th anniversary, the company released Don Julio Añejo 70 Claro, an innovative new aged tequila earlier this fall. The clear, colorless tequila has been aged in oak, then filtered through a proprietary process to remove color and highlight the agave notes of a blanco.

The tequila is aged for 18 months in used American oak, as with Don Julio's regular añejo, then filtered. Removing oak coloring and heavy notes is a process innovators like London's Tony Conigliaro and the French Culinary Institute's Dave Arnold have been toying with over the past couple of years to create unusual, experimental spirits like "vodksy" (an aged whisky with all the flavor and none of the color) and "whiska" (a vodka infused with aged oak flavoring and coloring), but this is the first time a similar process has been applied to a commercial aged spirit.

Añejo Claro "has a smooth and light character, opening with the citrus notes of a Blanco, yet exhibiting vanilla, honey and sweet toasted oak found in an añejo," according to master distiller Enrique de Colsa.
